The 2nd Test played between India and Australia will be held at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. The match will be kicked off on 26th December (Saturday) at 05:30 (GMT+6).
Following a historic day-night Test in Adelaide, India and Australia will face off in a Boxing Day Test beginning from 26th Dec. After the 36 all-out debacle in the 2nd innings of the Adelaide Test, the batting of the visitors will be in focus. In addition, their regular skipper, Virat Kohli, who has returned to India and is on parental leave, is absent. Mohammed Shami was ruled out of the Test series with a fractured arm too.
Australia are dealing with injury issues as well, as they will continue to miss David Warner. With Matthew Wade and Joe Burns performing well as openers in the opening Test, they are set to field an unchanged playing XI. Once again, their bowling attack consisting of Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Nathan Lyon and Josh Hazlewood will hope to dominate India.
On Boxing Day, the weather is expected to be sunny, but on Sunday, a couple of afternoon showers are predicted. There is no rain for the remaining days in the forecast.
A few years ago, when India won the Test at this venue, the pitch at the MCG was under the scanner. Ahead of the game, even Pat Cummins had hoped for a sporting pitch. Historically, this wicket has been bouncing, but over the last few years, it has also been slow. It will be fascinating to see if the curator leaves the 22 yards with a little bit of grass.
Average first innings score: 412 (Last 3 Boxing Day Tests)
