IPL Players retention underway; Kohli, Dhoni, Rohit, Maxwell to get retained by their respective franchises

Ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 mega auction, players like MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell, Rohit Sharma, and many more have been retained by their respective franchises.

Virat Kohli had his last season as captain of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in IPL 2021. RCB did not let Kohli go to any other team and kept him in the team. MS Dhoni is also staying in Chennai Super Kings due to affection. And Rohit Sharma is staying with Mumbai Indians.

Australian star all-rounder Glenn Maxwell is also staying in RCB with Kohli. Jasprit Bumrah is staying with Rohit in Mumbai. Ravindra Jadeja is also set to be with Dhoni in Chennai. Kolkata Knight Riders have retained two Caribbean stars – Andre Russell and Sunil Narine.

Popular cricket-based website Cricinfo has reported this information. Today (Tuesday) all the teams have to submit the list of retained players formally. This is what almost all the franchisees have finalized. The names of the retained players of several teams have been known from there.

Chennai Super Kings: MS Dhoni, Ravindra Jadeja, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Moeen Ali.

Kolkata Knight Riders: Venkatesh Iyer, Varun Chakravarthy, Sunil Narine, Andre Russell.

Sunrisers Hyderabad: Kane Williamson

Mumbai Indians: Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah

Royal Challengers Bangalore: Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell

Delhi Capitals: Rishabh Pant, Axar Patel, Prithvi Shaw, Anrich Nortje

Rajasthan Royals: Sanju Samson


Along with the previous eight franchises, two new franchises – Lucknow and Ahmedabad have been added and thus will have ten teams in IPL 2022. The budget of each party has been fixed at Rs. 90 crores for the mega auction of this event.

Rs. 42 crores will be deducted from the existing teams which will retain four players. Rs. 33 crores will be deducted from the pockets of the team retaining three players. 24 crore and 14 crore rupees will be deducted from the budget of the teams retaining two and one player respectively.
