ICC T20 World Cup 2021 hosting rights prevail to BCCI

IPL 2021 was postponed midway due to the rise of the Covid-19 outbreak throughout India. However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to hold the rest of the tournament in the UAE in September-October. Then the question arises, will India be able to host the T20 World Cup this October-November? The Indian Cricket Board is also convinced that it might not be possible for their country to host the World Cup this year. For this reason, the BCCI left the decision of the World Cup to the ICC.

A meeting of the ICC Executive Board was held on Tuesday, June 1. But it is known that the ICC did not take any decision about the World Cup in this meeting. Instead, they left the decision to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

Not only that, they have given a deadline of June 28, in which case the BCCI should decide that, will they organize it themselves or will they organize the T20 World Cup 2021 somewhere else.

The Indian Cricket Board held an emergency meeting on May 29. Where the main agenda was the organization of the World Cup. But before that, the BCCI left the matter to the ICC. But the ICC did not take any decision in the virtual meeting held on Tuesday. BCCI President Sourav Ganguly and Secretary Jay Shah were present at the virtual meeting.

A media report claimed that the BCCI had asked the ICC for one-month time to decide on the matter, they want to monitor the state of the epidemic outbreak in India this month.

A source close to the ICC board told the media, “Yes, the ICC board has agreed to the Indian board’s request. For this reason, they are getting time till June 28 to decide about the organization and venue of the World Cup. They will present a full plan to the board next month.”

Meanwhile, it is feared that the third wave of Covid-19 outbreak might hit India. If the BCCI is not able to host the T20 World Cup in India amid the panic of the third wave in the catastrophic situation created by the second wave, then the World Cup could go to the soil of the United Arab Emirates. However, even if it is hosted in the United Arab Emirates, India will have the status of hosting the World Cup.

It’s a matter of time to know about the fate of the ICC T20 World Cup 2021. To know more about it, stay updated with!
