Depleted Sri Lanka to face mighty England side

In international cricket, the Sri Lankan cricket team is now touring England for T20I and ODI bilateral series. The tour is set to kick off with the first T20I match on June 23 at Sophia Gardens (Cardiff). There are 3 T20I and 3 ODI matches in this tour. The second T20I will be played at the same venue on June 24, while the final T20I match of the series will be played at The Rose Bowl (Southampton) on June 26.

England and Sri Lanka have met in a total of 9 Twenty20 matches since 2006. Where England has won 5 of them and Sri Lanka has won 4. The last time the two teams met was in the only Twenty20 match in Sri Lanka in October 2018. Where England defeated the hosts in that match. However, England played their last 5-match T20 series against the hosting team, India. Where India (3-2) won the series against England.

Sri Lanka lost their last 3-match T20I series against the hosting team, West Indies (3-1). Earlier, the visiting West Indies whitewashed the Lankans in a 2-match T20I series. Prior to the series, the Lankans also lost to the hosts India in a 3-match T20I series (2-0).

The England players are in great form. They have lost only one of their last three T20 series, which was against India. They won the other two.

So statistically and with the success of winning the T20 series at home and abroad, the players of the England team have now become strong in confidence. Moreover this time England is playing on home soil. They will try their best to do well.

Note that in the ICC T20I rankings, England is now in 1st place and Sri Lanka is in 8th place. So the Lankans have to work hard in this series to build a solid position in the points table.
