Mehidy Hasan Miraj and Mustafizur Rahman’s bowling prowess alongside Mushfiqur Rahim’s century helped Bangladesh to win the first-ever series against Sri Lanka. The team led by Tamim Iqbal secured the series by winning the first two matches out of three matches.

Batting first at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur on Tuesday, Bangladesh lost the wickets of Tamim Iqbal and Shakib Al Hasan within 15 runs. After that, the hosts lost 4 wickets to make 74 runs. Mushfiqur Rahim made an 87-run stand with Mahmudullah (41) for the fifth wicket.

After that Bangladesh lost 3 wickets to score only 23 runs. Mushfiqur Rahim, the wicketkeeper-batsman of the national team, was the only exception in the procession of batsmen coming out in the middle and returning to the pavilion. In the end, Bangladesh was able to score 246 runs in 48 overs. Mushfiqur scored 125 runs off 127 balls with the help of 10 fours. Dushmantha Chameera and Lakshan Sandakan took 3 wickets each for Sri Lanka.

Coming down to chase the target, Sri Lanka was at a loss by the spin attack of Shakib Al Hasan and Mehidy Hasan Miraj and lost 9 wickets in 38 overs scoring 126 runs. Then it started raining. When the game resumed after 33 minutes of rain, Sri Lanka’s target in the D/L method stood at 245 in 40 overs. After scoring 15 runs in the last two overs, Sri Lanka’s innings stopped at 141 runs. Opener Danushka Gunathilaka scored the highest 24 runs for the team. Mehidy Hasan Miraj and Mustafizur Rahman took 3 wickets each for Bangladesh.

Bangladesh has climbed to the top of the ICC ODI Super League points table with 50 points after defeating Sri Lanka in the first two matches of the 3-match ODI series.
