Cricket Highlights, 23 May: Ban vs SL (1st ODI)

BAN vs SL (1st ODI)

Bangladesh won the first ODI of the three-match series by 33 runs against Sri Lanka. After winning the toss at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur on Sunday, Bangladesh scored 257 for 6 against the youthful Sri Lankans. Mushfiqur Rahim scored the highest 84 runs for the team. Besides, Mahmudullah and Tamim Iqbal returned to the dressing room scoring 54 and 52 runs respectively. Dhananjaya de Silva (45-3, 10 overs) took the most number of wickets for Sri Lanka.

Coming down to chase the target, Sri Lanka lost six wickets, their first 6 wickets to score only 102 runs being distracted by the off-spin of Mehidy Hasan Miraj. Wanindu Hasaranga took the helm in such a difficult moment for the team. After a 47-run stand with Dasun Shanaka for the seventh wicket, he made a 62-run stand facing 59 balls with Isuru Udana. Saifuddin broke the horrible Hasaranga-Udana pair. Hasaranga returned after giving a catch to the hands of Afif Hossain. With three fours and five sixes, Hasaranga was dismissed scoring the maximum of 74 runs for the team and he played only 60 balls.

Getting injured in muscles, Mustafiz returned from the dressing room after taking some aid and picked up Udana’s wicket. Udana returned with 21 runs off 23 balls. Mustafiz secured the debacle for Sri Lanka by dismissing the last batsman Dushmantha Chameera and they could manage to score 224 in 48.1 overs. Mehidy Hasan Miraj (30-4, 10 overs) was the highest wicket-taker for Bangladesh. As a result of this victory, the Tigers have risen to the 4th position in the ICC ODI Super League standings with 40 points.
