Cricket Highlights, 17 Jun: PSL 2021 (Match 26 & Match 27)

The 26th match of the PSL 6 between Islamabad United and Peshawar Zalmi, and the 27th match of the PSL 6 between Karachi Kings and Lahore Qalandars rolled on the field yesterday. Let’s have a glimpse over the article to know about the exciting moments of the matches.

PSL 2021 Match 26 (Islamabad United vs Peshawar Zalmi)

Festival of runs could be seen in Pakistan Super League (PSL) cricket on Thursday night. Where Islamabad United won by making a record, they won by 15 runs. However, Peshawar has also made a record in the match alongside United. The two teams scored 479 runs in 40 overs.

Batting first at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi, Usman Khawaja’s 105-run innings helped United to score 247 for two in the allotted 20 overs, which is the record for the highest team collection in PSL history. The previous record was set by them in the 2019 edition against the Lahore Qalandars (238). Later in the second innings of the match, Peshawar stopped at 232 runs by making the third-highest team collection record in the history of the tournament but they lost the match by 15 runs.

Usman Khawaja, the hero of the record-breaking match, played an unbeaten 105-run innings with 13 fours and 3 sixes, playing 56 balls. This is the 10th individual century in the PSL. Colin Munro (48 off 28 balls), Asif Ali (43 off 14 balls), and Brendon King (46 off 22 balls) helped United to amass a huge 247 runs.

Peshawar also started to respond well. Shoaib Malik, an experienced star of the team, played an innings of 68 off 36 balls, while opener Kamran Akmal batted for 53 off 32 balls. In the end, Sherfane Rutherford scored 29 off 8 balls, Wahab Riaz scored 28 off 15 balls and Umaid Asif scored 20 off 9 balls but Peshawar could not win.

As a result of this victory, Islamabad United has secured a playoff game remaining at the top spot. On the other hand, Peshawar has won five of their last 10 matches and is second in the points table.

PSL 2021 Match 27 (Karachi Kings vs Lahore Qalandars)

Karachi Kings and Lahore Qalandars met at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium (Abu Dhabi) on Thursday night, June 17 in the 27th match of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2021. Where Karachi Kings won by 7 runs against their opponent Lahore Qalandars.

Kings captain, Babar Azam elected to bat first after winning the toss. Babar Azam (54) and Martin Guptill (43) put on an 88-run stand for the second wicket partnership to move towards a big score. After that, thanks to the innings of 30 runs from 19 balls by captain Imad Wasim, the Kings lost 5 wickets in 20 overs and managed to collect 176 runs. Rashid Khan was the highest wicket-taker for the Qalandars (2-25, 4 overs).

The batsmen of Qalandars got off to a good start coming down to chase this huge target. They lost 1 wicket in 6 overs of Power Play and scored 49 runs. But the Qalandars batsmen continue to lose wickets off and on due to the controlled bowling of the Kings bowlers. In the end, Qalandars stopped at 169 runs losing 7 wickets in Noor Ahmed’s great spell (2-19, 4 overs).

The Karachi Kings are 5th in the points table after winning this match and the Lahore Qalandars are 3rd in the points table after losing.
