Cricket Highlights, 10 Oct: IPL 2021 (Qualifier 1)

IPL 2021 – Qualifier 1 (Delhi Capitals vs Chennai Super Kings)

In the 1st qualifier of IPL 2021, Chennai Super Kings got a great victory of 4 wickets with 2 balls in hand against Delhi Capitals at Dubai International Stadium. MS Dhoni’s team CSK has also secured its place as the first finalist of the tournament.

After losing the toss, the Capitals lost 5 wickets in 20 overs and scored 172 runs. Prithvi Shaw scored the best for the team, he collected 60 runs off 34 balls with 7 fours and 3 sixes. Besides, Rishabh Pant scored an unbeaten 51 off 35 balls and Shimron Hetmyer scored 37 off 24 balls. Josh Hazlewood took the highest number of 2 wickets for CSK. Besides, Moeen Ali, Ravindra Jadeja, and Dwayne Bravo took one wicket each.

Chasing the huge target of 173 runs, CSK lost the first wicket for 3 runs. Then on the second wicket, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Robin Uthappa made a big partnership of 110 runs. Uthappa returned to the dressing room scoring 63 off 44 balls with 7 fours and 2 sixes, but Gaikwad played an innings of 70 off 50 balls to take the team closer to victory. In the end, CSK reached the desired target by losing 6 wickets in 19.4 overs courtesy of a stormy innings of 18 runs from 6 balls by captain Dhoni. Tom Curran took the maximum number of 3 wickets for the Capitals.

Despite losing this match, Delhi Capitals’ hopes are still alive in the tournament. The Capitals will face the winner of the eliminator match between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kolkata Knight Riders in the second qualifier that is going to take place today.
