Cricket Highlights, 04 Apr: SA vs PAK (2nd ODI)

The 2nd ODI of the series between Pakistan & South Africa took place yesterday. Let’s have a look to know about the exciting moments of the game.

South Africa has won the second ODI of the series by 17 runs on Sunday (April 4) in Johannesburg. Coming down to chase the huge target imposed by them of 342 runs for 6 wickets, the opposing side, Pakistan scored 324 runs in Fakhar’s heroism. The three-match series is now tied at 1-1.

When the South African batsmen came to bat first after losing the toss at the Wanderers Stadium, fans might think that they might bat defensively to keep the series defeat probabilities in mind. South African batters started batting aggressively in this situation. The Proteas put up 341 runs for the loss of six wickets in the allotted 50 overs with the help of 92 run-innings by Temba Bavuma, 80 run-innings by Quinton de Kock, 60 run-innings by Rassie van der Dussen, and 50 run-innings by David Miller.

Chasing the target was not easy for Pakistan. They lost 5 wickets to score 120 runs in the 25th over. One by one, the batsmen went back to the dressing room before being settled to the wickets. The only exceptions were the openers, Fakhar played dazzling innings of 193, playing 155 balls, smashing 18 fours and 10 sixes to almost clinching the victory for the team single-handedly.

When Lungi Ngidi came to bowl the last over, Pakistan needed 31 runs to win the match by 6 balls. Fakhar was on strike in the first ball. Fakhar needed to play 6 balls to win the match for Pakistan. In this situation, Fakhar pushed the ball towards long-off and wanted to run for two runs. Fakhar got run-out by De Kock with a bullet throw from Aiden Markram then. Pakistan’s hopes of victory were over. In the end, the visitors’ innings stopped at 324 runs for 9 wickets. 

The two teams will meet in the series decider match on Wednesday, April 7 at Centurion’s SuperSport Park.
