Chris Gayle opts out of the remainder of the IPL 2021 due to bio-bubble fatigue

Punjab Kings batsman Chris Gayle has decided to leave the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 to keep himself fresh ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup 2021. The Punjab Kings announced this in a statement.

In the statement, Gayle said he has been in the bio-bubble of the West Indies, CPL, and IPL for the past few months. Now he wants to get mentally refreshed and rejuvenate himself. He now wants to focus on helping the West Indies to win the World Cup.

He added that he wants to go to Dubai for a short break. He has thanked the franchise for giving him leave at his request and wishes the team all the best for the upcoming matches.

On the other hand, Anil Kumble, the head coach of Kings commented that he played against Gayle and also coached him at Punjab Kings. Throughout the years he has known Gayle, he has always been professional, and the team respects his decision to get prepared for the T20 World Cup 2021.

So far this year, the Universe Boss Chris Gayle has played 38 T20I matches for four teams – West Indies, St Kitts & Nevis Patriots, Quetta Gladiators, and Punjab Kings. Only six cricketers have played more matches than him. Gayle, the 42-year-old has played in two of Punjab’s three games in the second leg of the IPL 2021 in the UAE.

Gayle will join the West Indies national team on October 17 to play in the ICC T20 World Cup 2021. Defending champions West Indies will take on last year’s runners-up England in their first match of the tournament on October 23.
