The West Indies cricket team is now touring Bangladesh for ODI and Test bilateral series. The first three ODIs have been held. Where West Indies lost the series to Bangladesh (3-0). There are two Test matches in this series. The first of which was held on 3rd-7th February. The visiting West Indies clinched an incredible three-wicket win over the hosts, Bangladesh.
There were a lot of speculations about this series before the series started. Because the West Indies last won a Test match against England in July of last year. So the hosts seemed to be looking at the Caribbeans with a little lighter sight. The Bangladesh team has to pay the price now. West Indies, who lost the momentum in the first Test of the series, found their way to victory in the 4th innings of that match. Despite having many experienced players on the Bangladesh side, the hosts had to surrender helplessly to a young player from the West Indies. Kyle Mayers, a young player, made it possible to win the inaugural Test with a double century and the highest run chase on Asian soil. Kyle Mayers is the highest run-scorer in the series (250) now and has also played the highest individual run-scoring innings (210). However, the highest wicket-taker is Mehidy Hasan (8 wickets) of the Tiger camp.
The West Indies have won 11 of the 17 Test matches between these two teams, while Bangladesh has won 4 and drawn 2. However, in the two-match Test series held in Bangladesh in 2018/19, the host Bangladesh whitewashed the West Indies. Even in the latest Test series against New Zealand, the West Indies were whitewashed by the hosts. West Indies last won a Test match against England in July last year. But the Caribbeans did not win the series despite winning the match. England won the series (2-1).
On the other hand, before the start of this Test series, Bangladesh started the series as the favorites due to their good performances at present times. The Tigers won the Test match series against Zimbabwe (1-0) which was their last series before this one. The previous win before the stated one was in the series against West Indies (2018/19). But Bangladesh had to stop while they came to confront the West Indies once again. This match proved once again that the equation in cricket cannot determine anything.
Bangladesh and West Indies will meet in the second and final Test of the series on Thursday, February 11 at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium (Dhaka).
