Babar regains top spot of batters whereas Hasaranga gets the stature of best bowler for the first time in the ICC T20I rankings

Pakistan captain Babar Azam has been rewarded for continuity with the bat in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021. Babar regained the top spot in the ICC’s updated T20I batting rankings yesterday. Sri Lankan spinner Wanindu Hasaranga has got himself into the first position in the rankings for the first time in his career in the meantime.

Babar Azam, who started the current World Cup from number two in the rankings, returned to the top position with 834 ratings. Dawid Malan of England has gone down one step in that. The biggest change in the top ten has come from Joss Butler. He is now at No. 9, eight steps ahead of before, thanks to a remarkable century against Sri Lanka in the Super 12.

Australian captain Aaron Finch has jumped three steps to make a spot in the top three. Pakistan opener Mohammad Rizwan and Indian captain Virat Kohli are in four and five respectively as they were before.

Sri Lankan leg-spinner Wanindu Hasaranga also started the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 in the rankings. However, for the first time in his career, the leg-spinner made it to the top of the T20 bowling rankings with one impressive performance after another with the ball in hand. At present, his rating point is 776.

South African spinner Tabraiz Shamsi has dropped to the second position as Hasaranga has risen to the top. However, England’s leg-spinner Adil Rashid has risen one step ahead of before. He is at number three now. The biggest surprise in the bowlers’ rankings is Anrich Nortje’s place in the top ten. The fast bowler has moved 18 steps upper to make his position at number 7.

Chris Jordan goes four steps ahead, and Ish Sodhi moves five steps ahead; they are now at No. 9 and 10, respectively. Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan and Mustafizur Rahman have dropped out of the list to make it to the top ten as Nortje, Jordan, and Sodhi have made their way into the list.

Meanwhile, there has been no change in the all-rounders’ rankings. The current top T20I bowler, Hasaranga, recently performed well with bat and ball. He has risen to the fourth position on the list. Shakib Al Hasan is at the apex position getting 271 rating points. Afghanistan captain Mohammad Nabi is right next to him with equal rating points. England’s Liam Livingstone has found himself a place in the top ten, moving 57 steps ahead.
