Another Covid-19 blow for the Melbourne Stars; Glenn Maxwell tests positive

Melbourne Stars have confirmed that their captain Glenn Maxwell has been infected with Covid-19. After losing to the Melbourne Renegades on Monday night, his result for Covid-19 returned positive in the Covid-19 rapid antigen test.

Maxwell then performed an RT-PCR test and is currently in isolation waiting for the result to come out. Maxwell became the 13th-star player to be infected with Covid-19 during the BBL of this season. Before, 12 other players and 8 staff members have also got infected.

Maxwell was captaining a depleted Stars team in their last two games against the Perth Scorchers and Renegades, and the team is now being replaced by substitutes and coached by the permanent coaching staff.

Before the Stars’ match against the Adelaide Strikers on Friday, 10 players and 8 coaching staff will be ready to come out of isolation. It is to be noted that BBL authorities were forced to change the fixtures at the last minute for three matches of the tournament after several Brisbane Heat players tested positive for the Covid-19 rapid antigen test on Tuesday.
