Faf du Plessis (9.5 credits)
This year, Faf du Plessis has been in phenomenal touch. He scored 282 runs in five innings, at an average of 94 with a strike rate of 150 and three 50s this year. He has been in sublime form and he has the chance to take full advantage of the powerplay with him now opening the innings. He looked good against pace and spin alike and you can back on him to continue his excellent run.
Shubman Gill (9 credits)
Shubman Gill has already impressed a number of people as one of the most promising youngsters around. In four matches, he has scored 152 runs and looked unflustered and very calm at the crease. In the last game against Delhi Capitals, he missed out and will aim to make up for it. Shubman Gill has never been dismissed by left arm spin in the IPL and has an average of 44 against wrist spin. He would thus be able to negate Chennai Super Kings’s spin challenge. If he gets through the medium pacers’ initial spell, Shubman Gill could certainly be scoring a big one.
Pat Cummins (9 credits)
Pat Cummins is a left-field option, mostly based on a hunch. He had an ordinary IPL start and has picked only two wickets in four matches. He bowled with good pace, however, and was unfortunate not to pick up more wickets. He is up against a Chennai Super Kings side, which though experienced, has degraded in terms of reflexes. His pace is likely to trouble the likes of MS Dhoni and Watson, who in recent times have been unable to put away quality pacers. Therefore, even though this pick isn’t based on numbers, he could turn out to be a dark horse.
