Shane Watson (9.5 credits)
Last year, Shane Watson had quite an interesting year with Chennai Super Kings. He struggled quite a bit in the group stages while he performed stupendously in the playoffs. He looked out of sorts and was dismissed for just four in the last match as well. Since his international retirement, he has been out of the game longer than any others, and with him not contributing with the ball too, he just doesn’t add much value to your team.
Robin Uthappa (9 credits)
Although in the IPL over the years, the Karnataka batsman has been very consistent, but he was poor in last season and seemed to have lost his touch. He was let go by the Kolkata Knight Riders, for whom he had played for four years. The first match may or may not be played by Robin Uthappa. And even if he does play the first match, it would be advisable not to go for Uthappa for this match, with the way the pitches have behaved so far in the UAE, helping the pacers early on and spinners in the latter stages of the match.
Deepak Chahar (8.5 credits)
Deepak Chahar was one of the top performers last year for Chennai Super Kings. But he didn’t have a good start to the IPL this time around. While his 2/32 figures may not seem troublesome, one of his wickets was a tailender and it was quite obvious in the match that Deepak Chahar was unable to extract the swing for which he is renowned for.
Other teams’ pacers were able to do a much better job. It might be a tricky choice to exclude Chahar, but he should not be persisted with because till the time he doesn’t show his ability to swing the ball in the UAE.
